PPG24 Noise Assessments

Planning Policy Guidance 24 concerns new dwellings which are brought to noise; the noise assessment should be conducted on the dominant noise source:

  • Road Traffic Noise
  • Rail Noise
  • Air Traffic Noise
  • Industrial Noise (see BS4142)

Sound Planning engineers conduct extended PPG24 noise assessments on site, evaluating the site's Noise Exposure Category (NEC) which determines the glazing and ventilation requirements imposed on the building facade.

Sound Planning use frequency analysis data collected from the on site PPG noise assessment to determine the specification detail of the proposed dwelling(s). Calculations are conducted in accordance with the rigorous methodology provided in section 6.7.2 of BS8233: 1999.

Sound Planning discusses the requirements of each individual noise assessment project with local authority planning and environmental health teams in order to provide a smooth path through the planning process.
